About Me

Me in the 80's:
So I was in elementary school but I do remember my dad teaching me his first "window of life". That was eat your fruits and veggies. I can remember him telling me this at my elementary school walking down the hallway. I guess I listened!!! I was a pudgy 4th and 5th grader and then I grew many inches and the pudge went away!

Me in the 90's:
When I was in high school I started to understand health and fitness. I would wash off my baked beans and eat them for breakfast (little did I know then that they were pinto beans and I could have bought a can) and I would watch my sugar and useless carbs. I remember when my dad told me to eat a candy bar before taking the ACT test so that it would give me that extra boost of energy the think about the questions. I told him NO WAY I'm not eating all that sugar and useless fat!!! I was 16!! And now, I still feel the same way! Another odd thing for a high school student, I ate a healthy sandwich, apple, and broccoli for lunch everyday. What high school student does that?!?!?! So my senior year I was in a gym class, aerobics, and then I would lift weights after school. The year before I lettered in golf and was on the team. Naturally a student would be on the golf team the following year.... nope not me, I decided that it would take up to much time after school and I wouldn't be able to exercise so I didn't stay on the team.
So I was in great shape then. Now 17 years later I am back in the same healthy position as I was then!!! Well, maybe a tad bit healthier and fit now!

Me now:
2 years ago I was walking on treadmill Chris, my husband, said why not run.  Oh this question brought me back to memories of 5th grade fitness challenge from 80's when I had to run outside around my elementary school and I would get winded and my esophagus would burn and I told him while walking I can't run.

He said everyone can run you just have to do it. So I tried.

And I pushed through the esophagus slight burn and ran one quarter of a mile!! The next week I ran a half mile.

That spring my goal was increase by quarter mile each week.

I did that and ran a 5K for memorial day. I felt accomplished even though Chris and I were laughing about me passing  a lady with a bad limp that was walking right at the end. But I did it and I didn't stop running the whole time (well it was really a slow jog). I continued to increase by quarter mile each week and got to 4 miles.

Wow and just less than a year ago " I couldn't run"! I have now ran more 5K's increasing pace each time and hit my goal in December of running 8 miles! And over the summer I trained for and did a triathlon sprint. 1/2 mile swim, 13 mile bike ride, and a 5K to end. Wow did I feel an accomplishment!!

Currently my goal is to increase my pace for a 5K, run a 10K this spring/summer, complete the triathlon again, and have toned arms for my brother's wedding that I'm in!!! Below are the 4 lbs more weights I just bought and the iron gym that will hopefully get me my toned arms!

I added some cross training a year ago. ZUMBA! And I LOVE it.... it's so much fun. If you like to exercise and any type of dancing is fun....you have to try it. My instructor is amazing and so much fun to work with. I can't wait for Monday night each week!

I don't drink coffee or soda. And don't think that any of that is healthy because it throws your body on a roller coaster of ups and downs trying to adjust. So my WAKE UP plan is to drink green tea and do jumping jacks. So after my shower and getting dressed in the morning I do 60 or more jumping jacks. When I first started this my 5 year old would say..... as he is watching me..... "Mommy what are you doing" and I would explain. Now he just watches. But the other day he actually told me how to do them the right way. Apparently in school you have to touch your hands together at the top and bottom of the jumping jack. So now I have my mini coach watching me!!! Recently I added in push ups after the jumping jacks so I can get an extra boost for my summer arm tone goal for wedding!

My goal is just to be conscientious of what I eat and exercise so that my body is healthy and fit.
