Cut out sugar. That is my number one! When I did that and focused on less sugar my pants started growing on me! Do I keep myself from eating the wonderful amazing desserts at a gathering...NO. I'll have a bit and savor the flavor! Or in the summer when we go get icecream I'll take a bite of my sons and a bite of my husbands icecream and I'm all good! Use honey or blackstrap molasses for baking instead of sugar: http://www.rodale.com/best-sweeteners?page=9

I eat smaller portions. To help with that I put my food on smaller plates...so it looks like more is there! Yep that works! And if I leave food on the table I want to graze and pick at it..... that doesn't work well. Your body needs time to process that it's full so fill your plate up and then put the rest out of site!

I don't eat a few hours before bed. Unless I worked out in the evening and then I'll pop some popcorn and have a "popcorn party" with my son!

Dance parties baby!!! Crank up the music and start dancing! Helps that my 5 year old loves dance parties and I really don't care if my neighbors see me dancing around!

Exercise a little in the morning. I do 60 jumping jack and 20 pushups every morning. I'm going to try some other things too: http://pinterest.com/pin/65443000805103952/

Exercise most days of the week. I act like I'm always training for a race. I have a schedule that I follow for improving my time. http://pinterest.com/pin/65443000805103268/ I have been using this since last October. I'm going to start a schedule for half marathon training....I may try one!!!

Prepare food ahead of time. It's all about prepping ahead. If you have celery, carrots, cucumber cut and in container you can get that for a snack instead of bad stuff. Go for veggies as the majority of meal with a little meat and carbs. Prep and cook food ahead of time and freeze. So easy to take out and heat up. So if u give a chunk of time to prep u can have lots off good stuff for a while. I make asparagus salsa. It consists of just veggies and I eat that as a snack. Quinoa is a wonderful protein carb to eat in a meal. I cook a bunch and have it available for whole week. Same with lentil beans. Cook a bunch and have it. Make a huge salad with tons of veggies and nuts and berries. Keep it in fridge and get a little each day. I make my salads for the whole week in sepeate containers or else I would never eat a healthy lunch at work!

Go less on dairy. There is lots of sugar in yogurt and milk.

Don't eat much fruit.  Part of my whole sugar thoughts

Drink lots of water. Take water where ever you go and drink it.

Make enough for leftovers Make a pan of lasagna with lean ground beef ( I use buffalo) a frozen package of chopped spinach, cottage cheese, pasta sauce, and noodles. Top with shredded mozz cheese. Hardest part is u have to cook meat first. Then just put it all together. I make day before and then just take it out of fridge and put it in over for hour. Then there are soooo many leftovers. I eat some and freeze a lot!

Use the Crockpot: It's soooo easy to cook with that. I toss in frozen chicken breasts all day. Come home and toss in 3 types of beans ( kidney, black, northern) buy cans of beans. Toss in jar of salsa all that for an hour. Then last 15 min put in block of jalepeno cheese ( can use half block).  So easy, cheesy, and gooooood.

Eat healthy snacks My snacks in the afternoon is v8 juice low sodium. Again more veggies! I starts the major focus on veggies. I love my asperagus salsa. That I make a big batch and then freeze most of it and take it out as I need it. Same with quinoa and lentil beans. I just make a bunch once a week and when I need a bite it's there.

I eat a lot of beans and other types of fiber - I make a cup of lentil beans for the week to snack on. I put black beans on my salads for lunch everyday and I cook garbanzo beans in the oven for a crunchy snack.

Eat --- if it grows on a tree
Eat --- protien everytime you eat something
Eat--- before and after exercising
Eat --- breakfast EVERYDAY. And make it full of protien, carbs, and fiber

This page is dedicated to Brittany...a few days ago she texted and said
"I need help with healthy recipies" well I gave her many more ideas than just recipes!

  1. Great advice! Brittany sent this to me. Many of these ideas parallel what I've found in learning over the past year :) I've also found fiber to be very beneficial in getting into/staying in shape (which I am sure you have as well but didn't mention it here). Also, when you do go out to dinner or consume a large meal, walking around afterward for a while is a good idea. Whenever we go out for dinner, we wonder around Meijer for a while vs. going home and sitting in front of the tv, etc. Looking forward to reading through your recipes. I have a 'vegan' chocolate chip cookie recipe ("vegan" because I add ground flax as an egg substitute) that I should give you if you're interested. They were a hit at Christmas! :)

  2. Sara, thanks for the comments! I sure do focus on fiber and movement after eating! I can't even begin to come up with all the tips and tricks so thanks for reminding me to add that to my list! I just started this blog two weeks ago and would love your recipe suggestions! Ohhhh flax works to substitute eggs? Interesting!
